Understanding Vehicle Health Scores

The Vehicle Health Score is one of the most distinctive features of the Car Expert AI report. Rather than handing you a list of technical findings and leaving you to interpret them, we synthesise the entire inspection into a single, meaningful number: your Vehicle Health Score out of 100.

How the Score Is Calculated

The overall Vehicle Health Score is a weighted aggregate of six category scores, each reflecting a critical area of the vehicle:

  • Car Details (15%) — VIN, documentation, odometer accuracy
  • Engine & Transmission (25%) — mechanical health, fluids, performance
  • Air Conditioning (10%) — cooling efficiency, compressor health
  • Steering & Brakes (20%) — safety-critical systems
  • Electricals & Interiors (15%) — electronics, infotainment, interior quality
  • Exteriors & Tyres (15%) — paint, panels, glass, tyre condition

What Different Score Ranges Mean

The vehicle score is one data point. A vehicle might score 82 overall but have a Steering & Brakes category score of 65 — which is a safety concern that demands immediate attention despite the acceptable overall number. Always review category-level scores alongside the overall score.

The Score as a Negotiation Tool

The Vehicle Health Score isn't just informative — it's a practical tool. A score below 85 gives you documented, professional grounds to request rectification before delivery, negotiate a discount, or in serious cases, request a vehicle replacement.

With a Car Expert report in hand, you're negotiating from a position of documented fact rather than subjective impression.

90–100: Excellent

The vehicle is in near-perfect condition. Any findings are minor cosmetic observations that do not affect the vehicle's function, safety, or value. Recommendation: Proceed with delivery.

75–89: Good

The vehicle is in good condition with some minor issues. These are typically cosmetic or easily rectifiable items. Recommendation: Proceed with delivery after dealer addresses noted items.

60–74: Fair

Notable issues found that warrant attention. Some may affect the vehicle's long-term reliability or resale value. Recommendation: Conditional delivery — items should be rectified before acceptance.

Below 60: Poor

Significant defects found that may affect safety, performance, or value. Recommendation: Do not accept delivery until all major issues are resolved or escalate to manufacturer.
